Fantasy of Flight Becomes Fantasy Island This Thursday, March 31 as “Splash-In” Celebrates the Aviation Aquatic Life

“Splash-In” at Fantasy of Flight Promises Exciting Day of Competitive Flying, Water Landings and Takeoffs as Part of 37th Annual SUN ‘n FUN International Fly-In & Expo

Back by popular demand for the fourth year in a row, Fantasy of Flight in Polk City will be hosting the annual “Splash-In” on Thursday, March 31 as part of the 37th Annual SUN n’ FUN “Fly-In” event themed a “Spring Break for Pilots” throughout the week.

On Thursday, March 31, the phrase “Splash Zone” will take on a whole new meaning in the world of Central Florida attractions as Fantasy of Flight once again hosts the “Splash-In” portion of the 37th Annual SUN ‘n FUN International Fly-In & Expo, held in nearby Lakeland, Fla. March 29-April 3.

Guests at Fantasy of Flight will be able to watch as pilots of both amphibious aircraft and seaplanes land on Lake Agnes and participate in exciting events that range from a “bomb drop” contest to slaloms with floatplanes and flying boats. This “fly-in within a fly-in” will include the amazing spectacle of water take-offs and landings as well as competition flying, water-bombing and spot landing. Key West Seaplanes will also be offering half-hour seaplane rides (weather permitting) for $119 per passenger with up to five people per flight. (These flights will be available at the attraction on Friday, too.)

10 am – 5 pm – Day-long events include spot landing or “bomb drop” contests, where pilots are judged by how close they come to a targeted landing area. There will be take-off contests with planes in similar categories where they race head-to-head to see which seaplane is off the water first. Slaloms, competition flying and other feats of skill will delight and thrill guests of all ages.

The all-day event is included in admission to Fantasy of Flight, which is $28.95 for adults and $14.95 for children, ages 6-15, plus 7 percent sales tax. SUN ‘n FUN ticket holders who do not wish to visit the Fantasy of Flight attraction will be charged $5 for parking and admission to “Splash-In.” Visitors who do not wish to visit the Fantasy of Flight attraction and are not SUN ‘n FUN guests, may pay $10 for parking and admission to “Splash-In.”

The attraction is also pleased to offer SUN ‘n FUN attendees an “Extended Spring Break for Pilots” by giving $5 off general admission to Fantasy of Flight with proof of admission to SUN ‘n FUN (wristband or ticket receipt). The offer is good for multiple visits and is valid March 31 through May 31, 2011. Polk County residents who would like to attend “Splash-In” may also take advantage of another special offer taking place at Fantasy of Flight this year — the 150/15 celebration. Honoring the 15th anniversary of Fantasy of Flight and the 150th anniversary of Polk County, the offer states that any Polk County resident who purchases a full-price single day adult or child admission can come back all year at no charge.
