Preds & Cecil’s Bar-B-Q Treat Saints Academy Honor Roll Students
The Orlando Predators and Cecil’s Texas Style Bar-B-Q spent Tuesday afternoon honoring the academic achievements of students from Saints Academy by treating them to a free holiday lunch.
The 15 kids in attendance were recognized for making the Saints Academy Honor Roll with grades no less than A’s or B’s. Saints Academy is a charter school in the Orlo Vista area of Orlando, established to give educational opportunities to children from underprivileged backgrounds.
Orlando Predators Director of Player Personnel Kenny McEntyre has done a great deal of work with Saints Academy as part of his charity throughout the year. The Preds and Cecil’s chose to treat the kids on Tuesday because of their accomplishments in the classroom, but also encouraged them to continue to work hard towards further success.
According to Saints Academy Administrator Vivian Williams, many of the children would not have had the opportunity to achieve and earn such a reward as lunch at Cecil’s without the support and opportunities provided by the charter school.
“Many of these children come from homes where no parent has graduated from high school,” Williams said. “The opportunity to come out to a restaurant, other than fast food, is something that most of them would not otherwise have. We had children that made the Honor Roll with at least one C, but they are not here today. We want to give them something to shoot for.”
Cecil’s Texas Style Bar-B-Q is a new sponsor of the Orlando Predators, located at 2800 S. Orange Ave. in Downtown Orlando. Tuesday’s event was the kickoff of upcoming sponsorship activities with the Predators and Cecil’s owner Michael Reeves.
“When the Predators asked us to participate in this event there was no hesitation,” Reeves said. “We are always happy to give back to the community and this was a great chance to partner with the Predators during the holiday season. We are happy to encourage these children to continue to work hard and achieve success.”
