The Science of Wine Returns to the Orlando Science Center
One of the largest collections of wines of any Orlando event is returning to the Orlando Science Center on Saturday, May 19, 2012. The Science of Wine is not just another wine tasting, but an oenological odyssey. This event features presentations on the science behind wine-making and includes the opportunity to sample over 100 fine wines from the world’s most important regions.
The Science of Wine is a fundraiser for the Science Center and is presented by Akerman, Florida’s largest law firm, in partnership with Southern Wine & Spirits. Luis Torres & the Constellation Academy of Wine and Tim’s Wine Markets are Education Partners, providing presentations and workshops on the Science of Wine. Last year’s inaugural event attracted 500 guests.
From 7 to 10 p.m., there will be plentiful gourmet and casual food offerings to accompany the wide range of wine selections. Food partners include Stonewood Grill & Tavern, All Occasion Caterers, Arthur’s Catering, Cantina Laredo, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Grand Bohemian, Puff N’ Stuff Caterer, Taverna Opa, The Ultimate Drunken Cupcake and John and Shirley’s Catering.
In addition, the Science Center will offer wine knowledge-building workshops presented by wine industry experts with topics like “Food and Wine Harmony” – THE quintessential program on matching wine with food – and “What’s in the Barrel? Oaks, Barrels and the impact of wood ageing” – an in-depth look at the importance (soup to nuts) of barrels. Both sessions are accompanied by an illustrative tasting.
There will also be casual experiences available for wine education, including locating the great vineyards of the world on the giant 3-D globe in the Science on a Sphere exhibit, a Q&A on the impact of weather on wine with WFTV Meteorologist Brian Shields and a session on how wine is made. A silent auction will also be available, featuring items like Jet Blue Air Travel, hotel and resort stays, theme park visits, food and wine experiences, golf outings and more.
Tickets are available at $75 per person. Special tickets for Science Center members are only $50. Sponsorships are available from $1,500. All sponsorships include event tickets and exclusive admission to the VIP Champagne Event Reception. Please call Kathy Lopus at 407.514.2233 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info, tickets or sponsorship details.
Proceeds to benefit the Orlando Science Center, a 501(c)(3) organization. The Science of Wine raises critical funds to provide operating support for educational programs and opportunities for youth, regardless of their ability to pay, to experience the fun and discovery of the Orlando Science Center.
